  What the device's session runs on, when the device switched it
  (capability `model`): a model of the device's own, not one of this instance's,
  so the chat sends none and says where the answers come from. Polled while the
  page is open -- the switch happens on the device, at any time -- and replaced
  whole. Nothing shows while the chat's own model is the one in use; then the
  picker's label is brought up to date instead, as the device may have switched
  to another of this instance's models.

  `ref` is the device's text, escaped like everything else that comes from it.
